How to change the IP address. You have just discovered a beautiful website, full of videos and interesting information, but you cannot see it because a message is warning you that you do not reside in the country for which that service is intended. Would you like to use the P2P software recommended by your friend but cannot take full advantage of it because you have to open the ports of the modem / router for your PC and you don't know how to identify it on the network?

Do not worry! The answer to these and other similar questions is only one: it is enough to change IP address.

You have no idea what it is? Don't worry, I can tell you everything!

The IP address is that "thing" that uniquely identifies us when we are connected to Internet. There are two different types: Internalexternal.

The internal IP address is the one that the router assigns to the PCs and to any other device that is part of the local network, while the external one, also called "global", uniquely identifies a connection and is common to all devices that use it.

IP addresses can also be dynamic, that is, they change with each connection, or static, that is, fixed.

How to change the IP address  external

Do you want to know how to change the external IP address? In this case, you just have to resort to the use of some special online services or applications created specifically for that purpose and that's it.

These are resources that allow you to hide the IP in use at no cost by simulating a connection from foreign countries.

They generally have time or traffic limits that, however, can be exceeded by signing up for paid plans.

However, if you don't have special needs, the free versions of it should be more than good.

Web proxy

The easiest resources to change the external IP address to use are without a doubt the Web proxy.

These are services that work directly from the browser and allow you to pass your connection through a remote PC that, in this way, acts as an intermediary with the sites you want to visit.

A good web proxy that I suggest you try Hide.me.

To use it, connected to your main web page, choose one of the available nationalities in the drop-down menu located at the bottom left, write the address of the site you want to visit with the masked IP and press the button Anonymous visit.

At this point, you will be automatically redirected to the address you entered, but your IP will be foreign, from the country you selected from the Hide.me drop-down menu.

After following the instructions above, you can test the effective operation of the web proxy by opening a new browser tab or window and visiting sites like What is my IP address? y WhatIP.

If everything went in the right direction, your PC will be detected as connected from a foreign country.

note: Although they are extremely easy to use, web proxies are generally quite slow and therefore not suitable for activities such as streaming multimedia content or downloading very large files.

Consequently, they are only used to camouflage one's identity (and geographic origin) on sites that do not require a particular commitment from the available band.

VPN

For more intense network activities than simply browsing online, it may be helpful to change the IP address using the use of VPN (acronym for virtual private network).

These are systems that connect the PC to a remote secure network that becomes the "protagonist" of external communications and makes its connection appear in other geographical locations (that of the network and no longer that of the local modem / router).

Among the many VPN services, the one I always recommend is Hotspot Shield.

It is a program for Windows and Mac It must be installed on your PC and can be used free of charge as long as it can carry a small advertising banner.

Eventually, there is also a paid version (Elite) that includes additional features, but if you have no particular demands, the free version should be more than good.

To start using it, connect to the Hotspot Shield website and click the button Free download to download the program to your PC.

When the download is complete, double click on it, the file you just got ( HSS-1: 39-installation-Webroot-225-conduit.exe ) and, in the window that opens, click first install. as run and then end.

If, on the other hand, you are using a Mac, after pressing the button to download the program, it will send it back to the corresponding section of the online Mac App Store.

Then click on the button View in Mac App Store in the browser, press Get / Install In the Mac App Store window that opened, enter your Apple account password and wait a few moments for the software download and installation to start and complete.

Now, regardless of operating system you are using, the program window will open.

Click the switch Red What do you find next to the writing? disconnected in the upper right corner and wait for the wording to appear connected and that the lever turns colored green.

At this point, you can say that you are satisfied: your IP has changed and you can finally take advantage of the new address to surf the net from any Web navigator.

To find out the IP address that has been assigned to you, open a new browser tab or window and visit one of the ad hoc sites that I have also indicated in the previous lines (for example, WhatIP).

If everything went in the right direction, even in this case it will be detected that your PC is connected from abroad.

When you no longer need the Hotspot Shield, you can stop using the service simply by setting disconnected the lever located in the program window.

I also point out that always from the latter you can monitor the data traffic carried out using the appropriate indicators.

If you need it, I would like to point out that Hotspot Shield is also available for mobile devices. You can install it in Android, on iOS and on Windows Phone and camouflage your IP address even when browsing from mobile phones and tablets.

Change internal IP address

As for the internal IP address, it can act directly from the modem / router that you own or from the PC, mobile phone or tablet, assigning a static address.

To do this, you don't have to resort to third-party services or tools - everything you need is already available directly from the device you are using.

From the modem / router

If you want to change the IP address of the devices connected to your network from the modem / routerYou can do so by accessing the device's configuration panel.

The procedure to follow is quite simple, but considering that the configuration menus may differ from each other depending on the make and model of the modem / router in use, it will not be possible to provide extremely detailed instructions. Anyway, don't worry, I'll try to be thorough enough anyway.

To get started, connect to the modem / router configuration panel by launching the web browser you generally use to surf the web, typing in the address bar 192.168.1.1 o 192.168.0.1 pressing the button Intro in the keyboard and providing the username and password that are generally required administration / administration o administration / password.

Once you are logged in, go to the section LAN settings, devices o Local network on the modem / router administration panel and select the Device Name you want to change the IP address and click the button to make the changes.

At this point, enter the IP address you plan to use in the field next to the wording IP adress, IP o IP adress and click the button to save the changes.

Note that in some cases it may be necessary to reboot the router or device that you have chosen to act on for the changes to take effect.

If the steps to follow to change the IP address I just indicated are not correct for your modem / router, I suggest you try to figure out what exactly to do by looking at the user manual attached to the device sales package.

Alternatively, you can try to find more information on what to do by connecting to support and assistance section the official website of the device manufacturer.

If you are using a personal computer With one of the latest versions of Windows, you can change your IP address from the operating system control panel.

If, instead, you have a PC equipped with Windows XP (Which, in my opinion, you would do well to replace as soon as possible with a more recent version of the operating system seen and considered that Microsoft is no longer supported and no more security updates are released.), the procedure to follow is slightly different from that was just seen, but it's still pretty simple.

To change the IP address in Windows XP, you must first click the button Home and go to Control panel.
