How to create an image ISO. The ISO files are files, or rather image files, containing all the data originally present in a CD, DVD or other memory medium. They are often used for backup and security purposes (to keep backup copies of multiple disks on a single drive) or to easily distribute a large amount of data.

Create ISO image is not difficult. There are programs that allow you to do this incredibly intuitively and without spending a single penny. How to create an ISO image in Windows

If you use a Windows PC, I recommend that you give ImgBurn a try. It is a very simple to use free software that can Record and create CD, DVD and Blu-Ray ISO images in just a few clicks.

To download ImgBurn to your PC, connect to the program's website and click on the item first Mirror x - Provided by MajorGeeks and then Download @ of executions.

When the download completes, open the ImgBurn installation package ( SetupImgBurn_x.x.exe ) and click first yes and then siguiente. Create ISO files on Mac

If you use a Mac, can create ISO image using Disk utility, one of the "standard" applications on macOS. This means that you do not need to download any additional programs to do so.

When you are ready, insert the disc to copy on the Mac, start the Disk utility Folder more from the launchpad and select the CD / DVD from the left sidebar (not that of the recorder). At the end of the operation, you will get an image file in format CDR. To convert it to ISO, you must open the terminal macOS and issue the following command.

sudo hdiutil makehybrid -iso -joliet -o (percorso ISO) (percorso CDR) where instead of the values ​​(ISO path) and (CDR path) you must enter the full path of the ISO file to be created and the source CDR file. To complete the operation, you will be asked to enter the password of your user account in macOS.

If you want to do it first, you can also write the command sudo hdiutil makehybrid -iso -joliet -o and then drag the CDR file twice to Terminal to automatically copy its path to Terminal (obviously on the first path you will have to change the extension from cdr to iso).

Alternative method

If you can't create an image file with Disk Utility, you can rely on Burn - a free burning software for macOS that allows, among other things, to create CD, DVD, and Blu-Ray image files in an easy and fast.

To use Record, all you have to do is select the tab copy from your main window click the button scanner…, Choose the drive containing the disc to copy and press the button. Create ISO files in Ubuntu

Do you use a PC equipped with Ubuntu Linux ? No problem, create ISO format image files with Brasero, an excellent free burning software.

To install Brasero on your PC, open the Ubuntu Software Center (the orange shopping bag located on the left sidebar), look for Brazier in the appropriate search bar at the top of the window that opens and proceed to install the software by clicking the button install placed next to your name. To complete the operation, you will need to type the Ubuntu administration password.

Once the installation is complete, start Brazier and click on the button Copy Disc. Then select the disc to understand from the dropdown menu Choose the disk to copy, set the option Image File from the drop-down menu Select a disk to write and click on the button property.

At this point, select the item ISO9660 image from the drop-down menu Disc Image Type (at the bottom of the window that has opened), choose the folder in which to save the image file, assign a name to the latter and click first Save and then Create image to start copying the data to the ISO file.

If you are prompted for confirmation to change the image file extension, you agree. The process of creating the ISO file should only take a few minutes.
