iTunes is a very popular multimedia software developed by Apple. Many know it as a simple player music: a player that thanks to the integration with iTunes Store allows you to buy music online, but in reality it is much more.

With the birth of iPhone y iPad, iTunes has become a much more complex software; a software through which you can manage devices iOS from your PC, synchronize data between iPhone, iPad and PC, create backup copies, restore iOS devices if necessary and much more. Also, after the release of Apple Music, iTunes has become the official client through which you can access Apple's music streaming service from your PC.

In short, if you are an Apple user and want to better manage your devices, like it or not, you cannot do it without iTunes. Here is why I am here today and if I need to, I am ready to explain how to download iTunes on PC: This is an extremely simple operation to complete, so let's not get lost in the chat any more and get straight to action - find all the steps you need to take below.

Minimum requirements

iTunes is compatible with the vast majority of PCs and Mac in our homes. In any case, before downloading the program, make sure that your PC meets the minimum requirements necessary for its operation.

  • hardware: a PC with 1 GHz Intel or AMD processor with support for SSE2 and 512 MB of RAM; an Intel-based Mac.
  • Operating System: Windows 7 or later; macOS 10.9.5 or later.
  • Disc space: 400 MB.

Download iTunes for Windows

iTunes is available for both Windows and macOS. On Windows it is available as a free download. However, on macOS, since it is the operating system developed by Apple for its PCs, it is pre-installed as "standard".

If you use a Windows PC and don't know how to download iTunes therefore connected to the Apple website and click on the blue button Download. Also leave the email address field blank.

The download is completely open, by double clicking on it, the file you just downloaded (eg. iTunes6464Setup.exe ) and, in the window that opens, click first siguiente and then install, yes, yes y final, to complete the iTunes installation process.

Update iTunes on Windows

If you already installed iTunes on your PC and just want to update the program to the latest available version, all you have to do is go to the menu comienzo Windows and invoke the program Apple software update.

In the window that opens, if updates are available, put the check mark next to the item iTunes and click first Install 1 item and then yes, to start the iTunes update process. If any of the steps are not clear to you, read my guide on how to update iTunes.

Download from iTunes for Mac

Do you use a Mac? Then you found iTunes pre-installed on your PC. However, in case of problems, you may need download Itunes manually and reinstall it. How you do it I'll explain it right away, but first I have to give you important information.

Starting with macOS 10.15 Catalina, Apple has removed iTunes from its operating system and "split" it into three new applications: music, Podcast y TV, leaving the management of iOS / iPadOS devices to discoverer. Therefore, it is not possible to download iTunes.

The same goes for macOS 10.14 Mojave, where iTunes is present but is an integral part of the operating system, therefore it can be installed / reinstalled only by fully restoring macOS.

In earlier versions of macOS, it is possible to act more freely. The first step you need to take is to connect to the Apple website and click the blue button Download, to download the program to your Mac (also leave the email address field blank).

The download is completely open, by double clicking on it, the file you just downloaded ( iTunesxx.dmg ) and start the executable Install iTunes found inside.

In the window that opens, first click the button continuedtwice in a row and then on that installwrite the password from MacOS administration (the one you use to access the system) and submit to complete the iTunes installation process.

At the end of the installation, you can start using iTunes as explained in the tutorials I mentioned above (the operation of the software is identical in Windows and macOS).

Update iTunes on Mac

If you have no problem install iTunes but you just want to update the software to the latest version, open the Mac App Storego to the card updates (located at the top right) and install the available updates for iTunes.

Updates for iTunes, macOS, and all applications installed through the Mac App Store should be downloaded automatically. If not, open System preferences, select the icon related to App Store and if it's not there put the check mark next to the items Check for updates automatically, Download the available updates in the background, Install application updates y Install system data files and security updates.

At this point, your Mac is set to automatically check for and download updates for iTunes, as well as for the operating system and for all downloaded apps through the Mac App Store.
