How to protect a PC from malware de Internet. Unfortunately, despite how useful the Internet is, we must also inform you that it is full of threats and dangers. There are people (known as hackers) who try to impersonate your identity to steal money from you, for example. Or they can also infect your computer to make it unusable. Yes. There is everything.

And therefore, you must be safe and protected. To fight any type of infection, protect yourself effectively. For that, disinfect your PC with software and programs for them. Here I am going to explain each type of program, its uses and the safest examples of them.

Whenever you want to download a antivirus or another program of this style, check its effectiveness in forums of other people who have already used it. It may seem like a joke to you, but there are softwares that supposedly clean your PC and do the opposite. These rogue programs, or rogues (as some call them), are the worst. And it will be very difficult to remove them from your PC. Therefore, do not install any program without first asking a question.

How to protect a PC from Internet malware: types of software

Antivirus and firewalls

What is an antivirus?

An antivirus is software that can detect the presence of viruses on your PC and, as far as possible, disinfect it. Virus eradication is known as the PC cleaning process.

To protect yourself on the Internet, each PC must have un antivirus and un firewall. Only one of each type, because multiple antivirus or multiple firewalls can create conflicts.

The best-performing antivirus will vary depending on people and their expectations. I personally advise these:

Avast (free) Tutorial

Avira (free) Tutorial

AVG (free) Tutorial

Kaspersky (to try)

NOD32 (to test)

BitDefender (free).

Note: I do not advise Norton, it is heavy, ineffective and does not automatically remove anything.

What is a firewall?

A firewall (also called a firewall) is a system that protects a PC or computer network from intrusions from other networks (especially the Internet). A firewall is a system for filtering data packets exchanged on the network.

Firewall tip :

ZoneAlarm (free).

Kerio (free).

Comodo Internet Security (free).

Online Armor Personal Premium Firewall (free).

Note- Don't settle for the firewall Windows XP SP2 as it is quite incomplete (it doesn't filter outgoing streams) so it's useless!

The antispywares

In addition to viruses, the Internet is a nest of infections. There are Trojans, spywares, worms, and back doors, which pollute our daily lives. Antispywares are software that can detect and neutralize these intruders.

You can download many similar programs without risk of conflict. For example, you can combine Ad-Aware and Spybot (which are complementary), or Spywareblaster and Windows Defender.

Note: Don't forget to update the software every week!

Ad-Aware (free).

Spybot (free).

Windows Defender.

SpywareGuard (free).

Webroot Spy Sweeper (trial - 14 days).

Anti-Trojans

You can download various programs of this type without risk of conflict:

Anti-rootkits

Rootkits are often difficult for antivirus and antispyware to detect because they bypass the main functions of the host system. Here are some programs that can help you detect them:

Sophos AntiRootkit (free)

RootKit Revealer (free)

GMER (free)

Chkrootkit (free)

Others for your desktop

Tips to keep your PC protected

Update Windows

Microsoft provides updates to address the flaws and vulnerabilities of the operating system. A properly updated PC is not only better protected, it is less likely to be infected.

Do not enter Administrator mode

The Internet is a source of insecurity. Avoid surfing the web, browsing your email or accessing any type of instant messaging when connected as administrator.

Avoid working often in Windows as an administrator. It is dangerous for your PC and your data. The "Administrator" has extensive rights that should be used very rarely, such as changing Windows itself during an update (Windows Update - Microsoft Update).

Each application that you run inherits the rights of the account that starts it. If you are logged in as an administrator, the applications you run will have full administrator rights. If an application connects when it is in Administrator mode, it will also have these rights and an attacker can take advantage of it to completely control your PC and turn it into a zombie, stealing or compromising your data.

The most dangerous parasites are installed and working correctly thanks to you! Why did you access the Internet or check your emails with the administrator account? They could not have done anything, or almost nothing, if they had used a normal user account.

Login with restricted

Log in with restricted access. If you are logged in in restricted mode, all applications you run have restricted rights. With restricted rights, no parasite can create files in the directory.

Disable Windows Firewall

D Activate the Windows firewall, download and write files to the system32 directory and destroy the Windows registry values in HKLM. All these attempts would fail if the user, using his email client (Outlook Express, etc.) or your browser (Internet Explorer, etc.), you would not have logged in with your administrator account.

No daily use of Windows justifies Administrator mode (except in exceptional cases, of which it is not a part). There are no applications connected to the Internet, such as browsers, instant messengers, email clients, P2P clients, etc. it should never be run in an "Administrator" context.

Cautious attitude when surfing the net

With a cautious attitude when browsing we mean that you be careful when downloading, receiving files through MSN, unknown emails, etc. Also with messaging services (files attached to messages must be analyzed before they can be opened, even of a friend).

Browse with another browser like Mozilla Firefox or opera (more secure against Internet attacks and regularly updated), but keep Internet Explorer to get Windows updates.

Do constant cleaning of your PC

Frequent system cleaning, junk file removal, system registry cleaning, Windows update, defragmentation of the HDD

Beware of unusual PC operations and if in doubt, feel free to run some cleaning utilities in safe mode to be sure.
