For reasons that you cannot explain yet, WhatsApp no longer works well and would you like to try reinstalling the application? You just formatted your mobile phone and does not know how reinstall WhatsApp without losing your old conversations? Do not panic. WhatsApp includes an automatic backup system that stores all conversations in the cloud (in Google Drive if you are using a terminal Android or in iCloud if you are using a iPhone) and allows you to restore them to any device connected to the same phone number and the same account. Google / Apple's backup source phone. The only exception is represented by Windows Phone, where in any case you can use backup copies of the chats saved locally by the application.

I would say waste no more time. Come on, give me five minutes of your time and find out how to restore WhatsApp installation on Android, iPhone and Windows Phone thanks to the instructions I'm about to give you. At the end of the procedure, you should be able to restore (within the limits of what is possible) all the chats that you thought were lost forever, plus their attachments, including videos if you had activated the appropriate feature in the WhatsApp settings.

The procedure applies to all the latest versions of WhatsApp and, as already mentioned, to all software platforms. Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the chats of a operating system to another (for example, from Android to iPhone), at least not officially, but this does not matter to us at the moment. For now let's focus on reinstalling WhatsApp on terminals of the same type and see how to complete this operation. I wish you a good read and lots of fun!

How to reinstall WhatsApp on Android

If you want reinstall WhatsApp on your Android mobile phone and you don't want to lose all the messages you had in the previous installation of the app, please do it this way.

  • Make sure that the mobile phone you are currently using is paired with the same phone number than the one in which you had previously installed WhatsApp.
  • Make sure that the mobile phone you are currently using is paired with the same google account than the one in which you had previously installed WhatsApp. If you don't know how, go to adjustments Android (the gear icon) and select the item first Account and then the logo of Google from the screen that opens. If your mobile phone is associated with another account from Google or you don't have a Google account, correct it by going to the menu Settings> Accounts and pressing the button Add Account.
  • If you still have your old phone on hand or want to reinstall WhatsApp on the same mobile phone and you have not uninstalled the app yet, launch Whatsapp, Press the button (...) located at the top right and select the item configurations in the menu that opens. Then go up Chat> Make a Backup of the chats and verify that the backup function in Google Drive is activated. If not, touch the button Backup to Google Drive, put the check mark on Diary and press the button Support to start a backup of all your conversations in the cloud. If you want to include videos in the backup, please check the item Include videos (But keep in mind that doing so will lengthen backup and restore times and take up more space in your Google Drive account.)

After doing all the above checks, you can proceed with the actual reinstallation of WhatsApp. If you intend to reinstall the application on the same mobile phone, please delete it and download it again from Google Play Store.

If you don't know how to delete a Android application, open the drawer (that is, the screen where the icons of all the applications installed on the device are located), press and hold your finger on the icon Whatsapp and drag it to trash can that appears in the upper left. Alternatively, go to the menu Settings> Applications Android and first press the icon Whatsapp and then on the button Uninstall.

As for reinstalling the application, there is not much to explain. After opening the Play store (the shopping bag icon with the "play" symbol printed in the center), find Whatsapp, select the application icon from the list of results and first press Install on pc and then I agree.

At the end of the download, then start WhatsApp, follow the initial configuration procedure of the application and after verifying your phone number accept the restoration of the backup (which the application will automatically find in Google Drive) by pressing the button Restore.

Have you already deleted WhatsApp from your mobile phone and / or can't search Google Drive for backups? In this case, you can try to recover one of the backups made automatically by the application in the phone memory.

In addition to making backup copies in the cloud, the Android version of WhatsApp also saves chats in the memory of the mobile phone and it is possible to restore your conversations from the latter. In this regard, I recommend that you download the ES File Manager file manager from the Play Store and use it to access the folder / Home / WhatsApp from your phone or the memory card inserted in it.

When done, select the folder databases and choose one of the available backups (their name corresponds to the date they were created). Finally, press the button Rename and rename the backup you want to restore msgstore.db.crypt12 (this is not necessary if you want to restore the most recent backup, which should already be called this way). When you install WhatsApp again, the application will "see" the backup locally and ask if you want to restore it.

You can also play the same "game" by taking the database with messages from another mobile phone and transferring it to the folder WhatsApp / Databases of your new terminal (as long as you have used the same phone number and the same Google account on the other mobile as well).

In the event that WhatsApp does not »see» the backup made locally, connected to this web page, log in to your Google account, remove WhatsApp from the applications that have access to Google Drive and try again.
